Ridley Scott has its ups and downs in his career as a Hollywood director, take the ups with the sci-fi classic "Alien" and "Blade Runner", and depth of films like "Legend" and "1492: Conquest of Paradise" and mediocre hits like "Black Rain" and "Someone To Watch Over Me." However, there was only "Gladiator", where forever to bed questions about its reputation as a director seriously and is not hard to see why. This film has daredRevival of Roman poem yesterday and I could do with some nice pictures, beautiful displays and signs, and a wide range. Scott holds the record as saying that he enjoys making films that make him a "world" Let the state. With this film get to do just that, rendering Ancient Rome in all its glory and brutality that their civil society otherwise noted. Gladiator is a great Hollywood epic scale, his world that you can safely enter and takeback to another time and place.
"Gladiator" starts with the introduction of our main hero, Max (played by stand-out authority of Russell Crowe), a Roman general who leads troops of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) in a great struggle to win Germany. The set of Wild defense, but they are not playing for the professional brutal Roman army. After the battle, the Emperor Max confesses that he wants the power to hand after he dies and that his first act was toare back in Rome a republic. son of Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) do not like this, and killed in a jealous rage and his father took control of the Empire. Maximus escapes his execution, but ends up in the slave trade and, finally, a gladiator who fights for his master Proximo (Oliver Reed). It is not long before Max found the Colosseum and a flood of games for the Emperor,Maximize his chance for revenge on Commodus, the Roman people against him, before eventually kills him in a duel main arena.
The story of "Gladiator" is not particularly new, it's protagonist is carried out to revenge, but is set against the life and times of the Roman Empire. The story is not unique, and there are times when the filmmakers could have worked on the script a bit 'more. But where this film really shines is inlarge visual sweep, strong characterizations, and the great show of it. This film is a feast for the eyes, all done in spectacular detail, the re-creation of ancient Rome for circulation. A shot angle reveals the Colosseum in the background and then reaches thousands of people on the road show is nothing short of spectacular. The games in the Coliseum savings account for all the great set-piece (instead of opening battle) in the film, andare spectacular. A particularly good sequence, including a former gladiator Maximus, while a few battles under Tiger parry. The composition of the shots in this sequence are very attractive and visually represents what Scott tried to convey to Rome, the picture is good, but what happens in it is brutal and evil. first fight Maximus' in the Coliseum with his team is very good, especially frustrating because with Maximus Commodus ends when the amount of voteskeep it alive.
Ridley Scott did a stellar cast for this Roman epic. Russell Crowe is in first place in a dominating performance as Maximus. All curtains around him, he carries the film with aplomb. The supporting cast is equally impressive. Joaquin Phoenix has a slimy, ugly little characters in Commodus, who makes a lot of bad things just because everyone feels good, looks or contemptuous of him. Oliver Reed is excellent as Max 'Master-Slave Proximo, oncealso a slave. Richard Harris was perfect as a Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and Connie Nielsen is great, as his daughter. Perhaps a comment in relation to these services, which struck me odd that everyone speaks English with the correct accents were. I know that should inspire the piece with a sense of refinement, but see Romans speak with a British accent is a bit 'strange. There is only one small criticism, most do not notice while you are absorbed inthe epic nature of this great movie.
"Gladiator" is a great, old-fashioned Hollywood epic sweep updated with today's modern visual effects, it is a visual and artistic triumph, and take it back to Rome in the ancient world, even if the story is not particularly innovative and unique.
